Join us to celebrate the 1940s at the iconic Parsonage Museum
1940s Weekend at the Brontë Parsonage Museum
Join us to celebrate life during the 1940s at the iconic Parsonage Museum, home to the famous Brontë sisters. Find out why visitor numbers rose so dramatically from 5,000 in 1939 to over 50,000 by 1946. Who lived in the Parsonage during the 1940s and what was their life like?
Throughout the weekend you will have the chance to meet characters from the 1940s, including Custodian Harold Mitchell and his wife, to hear about the life of their young son Eric, the last child to be born in the Parsonage. Find out more about his 1940s childhood by listening to his recorded oral testimony.
View our special 1940s collections display which features a copy of the original screenplay for the 1943 film adaption of Jane Eyre, along with stills and other memorabilia from the 1940s Brontë films.
