Brontė Society events take place throughout the year. A contemporary arts programme also takes place at the Brontė Parsonage Museum. Forthcoming events include; 2010 - 2011 Literary Competition: we are delighted to announce the Society's Literary Competition. There will be three entry categories : short stories, essays and poetry, and each entry must have a connection with the Bronte Sisters' lives or works, or with people, places or objects connected with them. Judges will be : Short story : Ms Bonnie Greer Essay : Professor Heather Glen Poetry : Professor Michael O'Neill. In each section first prize will be £500, second prize £250 and third prize £100. All entrants who are not already Society members will receive one year's free membership of the Bronte Society. Deadline for entries : 31st January 2011. Monday 1 February 2010 until Friday 20 May 2011 Sex, Drugs and Literature - The Infernal World of Branwell Brontė: New special exhibition focusing on Branwell Brontė - Bronte Parsonage Museum - Free on admission to the museum Friday 21 May - Sunday 18 July Victoria Brookland: Wearer Unknown: A series of new paintings by artist Victoria Brookland, inspired by the dresses in the Bronte Parsonage Museum collection - Bronte Parsonage Museum - Free with admission to the museum. Saturday 17 July - Monday 20 September The Writing Shed: Interactive installation project The Writing Shed by artist Merry Swarbrick will be installed in 'Parson's Field' behind the Parsonage. The piece was previously displayed at South Square Gallery in Thornton (close to the Bronte birthplace) as part of A Room of Words, an experimental exhibition of text based art brought together by curator Deborah Britten - Free exhibition Summer Holidays Get Busy with the Brontes! TALKS and WALKS: Every Tuesday from 27th July until 24th August, there will be free talks at the museum about the Brontes and their lives at the Parsonage, and then a short guided walk around Haworth, exploring what kind of place it would have been in the time of the Brontes - Free to museum visitors.
Wild Wednesdays!: Every Wednesday throughout the summer holidays there will be all manner of fun and frolics for families, in a wide range of activities from storytelling to bug hunting! All free for museum visitors: 28 July Write your own Bodice Ripper!: Contribute to a communal 'bodice ripper' in these short fun writing activities with award winning writer Char March. 4 August Snap Dragons in Silk:Be inspired by Charlotte Bronte's flower paintings and produce your own little miniature to take home with you. With local artist Rachel Lee. Saturday 7 August Tales of the Islanders with artist Orly Orbach: Join Orly to make your own little book inspired by the Brontes' childhood tales. Orly will create 'pyrography' illustrations on tree stumps which you can make rubbings from as a starting point to create your own imaginative little book to take home with you - Throughout the day - Free with admission to the museum - on Friday 6 August museum visitors will be able to watch Orly creating her pyropgraphy designs. 11 August Hands on History: Explore the time of the Brontes with some original artefacts. Have a go at making your own little book; you could even try your hand at cross-stitch. 18 August Tall Tales and Riddling Rhymes: Join local legend Peter Findlay for some mayhem in the museum with this lively, interactive storytelling. We might even visit the meadow if the sun shines... 25 August Churchyard Challenge! Take our special pack to the Haworth Churchyard; follow the graveyard trail, try your hand at grave rubbings, and have a close up view with our special bug catcher / magnifiers at some of the tiny living inhabitants of the churchyard...
Saturday 21 August until Sunday 28 November Remnants: Su Blackwell: Exhibition of new site specific paper-cut installations by artist Su Blackwell, inspired by the collection and installed in the period rooms of the museum - Daily - Free with admission to the museum. Saturday 11 September - Sunday 12 September Fair Intents: Ecofair in Parson's Field behind the Bronte Parsonage Museum with a wide range of local products and projects to try, in conjunction with Haworth Arts Festival. Friday 17 September - Sunday 19 September Bronte Festival of Women's Writing: As part of a special programme of events celebrating women's writing, the museum hosts its first literary festival. The festival will include readings with Kate Mosse (17 September) Carol Ann Duffy (18 September) and Daisy Hay (19 September) as well as a range of events, writing workshops and family activities at the museum throughout the weekend.
