New for 2008

This year's features are a special exhibition "No Coward Soul" celebrating the life and work of Emily Brontė the author of Wuthering Heights and a redisplay of Branwell Brontė's paintings. The exhibition will be the first time all of the Society's Emily collection has been on display together.

To celebrate our current exhibition on Emily we are delighted to be able to have on display her Gondal poems notebook (from The British Library) and the iconic portrait of Emily (from The National Portrait Gallery) painted by her brother Branwell. Both of these items are currently on loan to the museum during the summer months.

August Arts Events: There will also be a series of arts events at the museum during August, including a specially commissioned show by puppetry theatre company Frolicked and the opportunity for visitors to be photographed as Charlotte, Emily or Anne Bronte. See What's On for further details.

Simon Armitage:  Poet, Simon Armitage, will be reading from and discussing his work. Annelies Strba: An exhibition of new work by Swiss artist Annelies Strba, inspired by the Brontės and the Parsonage and displayed throughout the period rooms of the museum- Brontė Parsonage Museum - Free on admission to the museum.

Summer Arts Events: A series of arts events during August will give visitors the opportunity to see artists at work. All events are free on admission to the museum. For further information on any of these events contact jenna.holmes@bronte.org.uk / 01535 640188.

Monday 4 August: Artist Lesley Martin will be working with visitors to create a giant artwork on the Parsonage front lawn made from natural materials collected from the area. Visitors are invited to bring along their own materials found on walks on the moors. Lesley Martin will also be giving a talk in the graveyard on plants found growing there and their natural uses.

Tuesday 12 August: Special photography project with artist Kate Potter will record twenty-first century visitors as Charlotte, Emily and Anne using traditional photographic techniques. Visitors interested in taking part in this project can contact jenna.holmes@bronte.org.uk / 01535 640188.

Friday 22 August: Chainsaw artist Dominic Clare will be creating a sculpture from a tree felled in the Parsonage garden earlier this year. The tree was believed to have been planted by Charlotte Brontė on the occasion of her marriage.

Wednesday 27 & Thursday 28 August: Puppetry theatre company Frolicked will be performing a specially commissioned show in and around the Brontė Parsonage Museum.
