An online talk in partnership with Elizabeth Gaskell's house.
Join Susan Newby, Learning Officer at the Brontë Parsonage Museum, to discover how Elizabeth Gaskell's 'The Life of Charlotte Brontë' secured the legacy, reputation, and myth of Charlotte after her death. Telling the story of a 'wild, sad life and the beautiful character that grew out of it’, the biography was not without controversy when originally published in 1857. The first biography to be written both by and about a female writer, it remains a classic of the genre.
Back by popular demand, this is the first in a series of events examining the friendship between these two giants of Victorian literature, and is part of a short season of events in partnership with Elizabeth Gaskell’s house.
Please note, this is a repeat of the sold-out 2021 talk.
