A Creative Family Workshop
Inspired by the tale of the Winter Wind and the Summer Sun and the stories the Brontë children read and loved, this workshop is a chance to creatively experience the wild weather of the moors.
Join storyteller Sophia Hatfield for a very special live storytelling performance, and experience a creative guided windy walk on Penistone Hill. Then head back to the Museum to create your own family fables and stories. Let’s get together to explore the weather!
This workshop is filled with fun characters, creativity, live music and song. A chance to learn a little more about the Brontë family and explore your creativity as a family.
This activity is open to all. You do not need to book for the Museum in order to attend this workshop.

Additional information
The workshop will run for approximately 2 hours. All ages are welcome to join in although the session is recommended for groups with children aged 5 and up. Where we will be
This workshop will take place in the Museum’s event space, which is located on Church Street. The session also includes a guided walk up to nearby Penistone Hill. The path leading to the event space is cobbled and may be challenging if you are using a wheelchair or pushchair.

What we will be doing
The walk to Penistone Hill is approximately 1.1 miles from the event space. There is a gradual climb of about 30m up to Penistone Hill, most of which lies at a height of about 300m. The gradients on footpaths on the hill are gentle but some of the old quarry slopes lie at a steep angle. It is possible to drive to a carpark located on Penistone Hill to participate in this section of the workshop if you are unable to complete the walk.
The walk will last approximately 35-45 minutes. We recommend wearing appropriate footwear and outdoor clothing, and be sure to bring water and snacks for you and the little ones!
Who the session is suitable for
All ages are welcome to join in the workshop. The session is recommended for groups with children aged 5 and up but you are welcome to attend with younger children if you feel the workshop will be manageable for your child and family group.
If your child is neurodivergent or has additional learning or access needs, we welcome you to a gentle meet and greet with workshop facilitator Sophia Hatfield 15 minutes before the start of the workshop. This is an opportunity to say hello, find out more about the session and discuss any additonal needs or adjustments we might be able to make on the day.
