Families
Visit the Brontë Parsonage Museum with all the family.
The Brontë story is inspiring for all ages - in fact, it begins when Charlotte, Emily, Anne and their brother Branwell were children themselves, creating imaginary worlds together...
Click on the questions below to help plan your trip with younger visitors.
For more details on what to expect when you arrive, please visit our accessibility page here.
Is the Museum interesting for children?
Yes! Throughout the Museum, there are information panels created specifically with children in mind, helping them to imagine what life in the Parsonage was like.
In the Exhibition Room upstairs, we have several interactive displays, such as lift-the-flap panels. In the same room, you'll find our dressing-up corner, dolls house, and a child-sized table and chair with drawing materials based on Brontë characters.
Do you have events and activities for children?
During the school holidays, we have lots of fun things on for families, such as crafting, live storytelling, museum trails and more...!
Check our 'What's on' page to find out more about our events and for details on visiting the Museum as a family, see our 'Families' page.
Are there provisions for families with SEND?
Yes! At our welcome desk we offer Calm Bags, which can be borrowed and taken around the Museum. They include ear defenders, a soft animal, a sand timer, a tangle toy, a bubble fidget and magnifiers.
Many of our staff members have received autism-awareness training. Please ask us if you have any questions or concerns before your visit. You can contact us on 01535 642323 or by emailing [email protected]. Telephones and emails are answered Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm.
Do you have changing facilities?
We will do soon - we're currently building our new visitor facilities, which should be ready in early 2025. These will include toilets, baby changing facilities, and Changing Places facilities.
Can I bring a pram?
You're welcome to visit the ground floor of the Museum with a pram. Please speak to a member of our team beforehand and we'll guide you to our accessible Museum entrance.
Unfortunately, you can't take your pram upstairs, however if you're able to carry your child, you can leave the pram in our shop. We also have 'Hippychick' hip seats available to use inside the Museum.
