Job Description

Are you motivated, creative and looking for a new challenge?  The Brontë Society is looking for an experienced curator to provide maternity cover for a minimum of six months.

Haworth Parsonage is the former home of the Brontë family and the place where the world-famous novels ‘Jane Eyre’, ‘Wuthering Heights’ and ‘The Tenant of Wildfell Hall’ were written.  As the Brontë Parsonage Museum, it houses the world’s largest collection of Brontë artefacts and welcomes approx 65,000 visitors of all ages and backgrounds from across the world each year.    We are proud to be an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation for literature and one of the top must-see destinations in Yorkshire.

The successful applicant will work closely with our Principal Curator to plan our  2026 exhibition and displays and devise fresh and exciting ways to access and engage with the Museum’s world-class collection of Brontë manuscripts, furniture, clothing and personal possessions.

To be successful in this role, you will have a passion for museums and a belief in the positive impact they can have on lives and wellbeing. You will be experienced in all aspects of collections management and also have experience of developing and delivering events and activities linked to collections.

We have recently upgraded our Collections Management System to Axiell Collections, so experience in this, alongside a sound understanding of Spectrum 5 compliance would be an advantage.

Candidates will also need to demonstrate strong project management skills and the ability to work across teams to help the Brontë Society achieve its aims and ambitions and reflect its status as a National Portfolio Organisation and an Accredited Museum.

In return, we offer the opportunity to work with a unique, Designated collection in a vibrant and iconic heritage setting; a flexible working pattern; free membership of the Brontë Society; 20% discount in the museum shop, a monthly wellbeing hour and benefits associated with the museum’s institutional membership of the Museums Association. The Brontë Society is proud to be a Real Living Wage Employer.
