Join us as we explore the first depictions of Branwell in Victorian biographies, focusing on the writing of Elizabeth Gaskell and Francis A Leyland. As the earliest recollections of the family, these works became eulogies for the Brontës, solidifying their reputations. Through an exploration of traditions of Victorian death culture, this talk will highlight two contrasting depictions of Branwell and discuss how both biographers chose to represent the dead. This month’s Thursday Talk will be delivered by Rose Dawn Gant, a PhD student and Brontë Parsonage Museum event volunteer.
Please note, this ticket is only refundable if the event is cancelled, in which case we’ll contact you. We reserve the right to make changes to our programme. All information is correct at the time of booking.
