Events exploring women's writing
Charlotte, Emily and Anne Brontë were pioneering women writers and continue to inspire contemporary literature in limitless ways. We run a discrete strand of programming themed around Contemporary Women's Writing each year, featuring events, reading, writing workshops and more, with a locus each autumn during the Brontë Festival of Women's Writing.
In 2019, we are working with a guest programmer, novelist Kit de Waal, to develop a festival featuring content relevant to and supportive of working class voices in fiction, both in terms of the content selected and in terms of the accessibility of the events. The full programme for the 2019 Brontë Festival of Women's Writing will be announced on Monday 3 June, and highlights will include appearances by Amy Liptrot, Sara Collins and the team behind the Staunch prize, plus a masterclass morning, The Life of a Book, that aspiring writers will not want to miss.
Previous visitors to Haworth appearing in Contemporary Women's Writing events include Tracy Chevalier, Kate Atkinson, Maggie O'Farrell, Jacqueline Wilson, Fiona Mozley, Patience Agbabi, Kate Mosse and more.
