Eleanor Houghton, Charlotte Brontë’s 1850 Thackeray Dress, Pen and ink with watercolour, 2021
Charlotte wore this dress to meet William Makepeace Thackeray in June 1850. The morning meeting took place at George Smith’s London house and only Charlotte, Thackeray and Smith were present.
