Eleanor Houghton, Charlotte Brontë’s Paisley Dress, Pen and ink with watercolour, 2021
Charlotte’s Paisley Dress dates to the late 1830s or early 1840s. The fabric design has been printed onto a fine white, striped muslin. The dress is likely to have been made by Charlotte and Martha at home in Haworth and features tiered sleeves and a voluminous skirt reduced at the waist with tiny cartridge pleats.
