We have a unique educational resource at the Bronte Parsonage Museum, with the potential to encourage enormous creativity and imagination in learning.

Our aim is always to deliver a service which fulfils this potential, offering a range of exciting, cross curricular workshops for students of all ages. The excellence of this provision has been recognised in a number of awards, including the prestigious Sandford Award.

Workshop sessions include guided walks, drama sessions, artefact handling, creative writing, and art and craft activities. See Educational Workshops for more information.

By combining and adapting our different workshops we can meet the needs of very varied groups, ensuring the learning experience of your students is as meaningful and relevant as we can make it.

Recent developments to our education programme include a Talk illustrated by images, designed to be an enjoyable and informative introduction to the Brontes lives and work. Again, this can be adapted for different ages and curriculum requirements, and will fit in well with other sessions, such as drama or a guided walk. We have also recently added a workshop looking at specific Bronte texts, including Interpretations of Wuthering Heights. We see this session as being particularly useful to A level students, but could also be adapted to key stage 4.

New additions to our programme last year were a Victorian School Room session, a workshop involving costume and role-play and which takes place in the adjoining school house where the Brontės themselves actually taught; also Brontė Treasures, a rare opportunity to see at first hand some unique Brontė artefacts.

This year, we are excited to present a very different experience for KS2 and KS3 pupils; High Waving Heather. This is a cross-curricular workshop exploring the nearby moors, their history and ecology, as well as their inspirational role in the work of the Brontės

A range of free resource materials for schools visiting the museum are available on request. Please contact the Education Officer, Susan Newby on 01535 640185/640194 or email susan.newby@bronte.org.uk if you wish to discuss requirements for your visit.
